Currently in Community Foodies I am involved in 2 ongoing projects Emergency Relief (ER)Cooking Classes and Easyfeast (more detail to follow)
ER cooking is held each Monday (no public Holidays) with individuals who receive Emergency relief from Lutheran Community Care in Blair Athol being invited to attend these courses. At present 3 men who live locally attend. There are 6 Foodies involved and we work under the supervision of Audene Knowles (ER pantry manager) and Julie Henderson (Foodies worker). The objective is to teach participants how to cook simple meals using products from the things that they are handed through ER. Each week cooking a sweet and savoury dish. We are currently using recipes that Audene has collected from packaging but long term Foodies hope to create recipes using the Foodies philosophy written in my last post.
Easyfeast is a project that was started by Community Foodies in 2008, it combines the creation of low cost, nutritious meals which are sold at Community Food SA and the compilation of a professional printed cookbook.
After completing Foodies training in 2009 I joined together with other foodies to compile a step by step photographic cookbook that is due to be published in April and will compliment the recipe packs that are currently available. The recipes included in the project are: Tuna Patties, Vegetarian Pizza, Tuna Mornay, Couscous Salad and Corn & Tomato Salad after the launch of the cookbook there will be further meeting to plan new Easyfeast meal packs
Week Beginning Sunday 21/3/10
Monday: Arrived at usual time. ER cooking cancelled due to Forum being held at LCC. Audene will be absent for the next 2 weeks so I will fill her role for the next 2 weeks.
Total Hours 45 minutes meeting with Audene roster system and next weeks cooking
Tuesday: Typed up the final draft of Mission statement for the cookbook, something I volunteered to do along with the first draft of newsletter article. Newsletter deadline is April 9, 300 words
Total hours 1.5 hours
Thursday: Final Cookbook session. Our last chance to change the cookbook before it goes to the printer. The mission statement is finally completed. A combined effort between Katie, Mark and myself.
Friday: Garth Linda, Suzi & I met to discuss new recipe ideas for the next installment of Easyfeast meals. Neville (coordinator Community Food SA) would like a recipe using soy sauce. While nothing decided yet probably will be a fried rice or noodle dish.
Next point on the agenda general recipe development. A lentil based soup will probably get the nod as winter approaches keeping in mind that it has to be cost effective. A simple cake recipe needs to be found to as desserts and baked goods need to be included into the range still.
Total Hours: 1030 till 12pm (2.5 hrs)
